An Ablation is a non-hormonal method for the permanent treatment for heavy periods and are done having children.  In an endometrial ablation the innermost lining of the uterus is ablated, or made not to function.  There are several different methods that can be used to perform an endometrial ablation and the surgery can be performed in the office or in the hospital.

At Heartland Ob/Gyn our surgeons utilize Novasure and Thrermachoice as the main method of ablating the endometrium.

What to expect:  Whether your ablation is performed in the office or at the hospital there will be no incisions.  There is virtually no recovery time, you don’t have to miss work (other than the day of the procedure) and there are no restrictions.  About 50% of women have a complete end to their heavy periods and 45% will have a drastic decrease in menstrual flow and the number of days of the period.
