Menopause is the cessation of menses for more than 12 months. The average age for menopause is 51, but women can reach menopause at younger or older ages. Perimenopause is the term used to refer to the time when the body starts preparing for menopause. While some women go through menopause with few complaints, many women experience bothersome symptoms. These may include:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Emotional changes
  • Skin and hair changes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Painful intercourse

If these symptoms are affecting your daily life, or making life less enjoyable, hormone replacement therapy may be considered. The decision to use hormone replacement therapy, along with the risks and benefits, can be discussed with your provider. We can also offer or suggest non-medicinal ways of treating menopausal symptoms.
